NEW STEAMER SERVICE.

SYDNEY AND SAN FRANCISCO. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Sydney, July 20. Mr. Ilolman is considering a proposal by the Director of Immigration now on a Government mission to the United States to appoint a commissioner to represent New South Wales on the Pacific Slope and to establish a new steamer line to San Francisco, with a view to the development of trade. The commissioner suggests a 20 days fortnightly service from London to Sydney, cutting out Auckland. He estimates that a subsidy of £20,000 would be needed.
