ALLEGED THEFTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. An. extensive series of alleged thefts from warehouses will be investigated in court next week. To-duy Allan Lee, bonded atoreman for W. and G. Turnbull, Alfred Smith, carrier, and his brother, Bertie Smith, storekeeper, and Ernest Oharles' Gregory, under-storeman for A. S. Patterson, were charged with stealing and receiving goods valued at about £l2O, the property of the two first warned. The prosecution alleges that accused connived together to rob the wairehouses in question. All the accused were remanded till July 26 on substantial bail. MORE TROUBLE AT WAIHT. Waihi, Wednesday. The agreement recently come to between the mining companies and the union has not been signed owing l to a dispute over technical points, and at a mass meeting of miners last nigtofc it was resolved to give the companies one week (to reconsider their decision and meet the union's demands, failing which a- meeting will be held next Tuesday to reopen the whole question of wages," etc. The situation has caused a feeling of unrest amongst local .business people and hlaa re-awakened the fear; prevalent a- few weeks hack of a strike. ' DAYLIGHT SAVING. Hamilton, Wednesday. A largely attended nwwt-nig of the Business Men's League decided to forward a resolution to Mr. Sidey, M.P., heartily approving of the Daylight Saving Bill which he introduced last session.

NEW COLLEGE AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, July 17. The Auckland University College Council decided to-day to request the Minister for Education to use his best endeavors during the coming session to secure a vote of not less than £40,000 as an instalment of the sum of; £IOO,OOO promised by the Prime, Minister to provide new college buildings in Auckland. It was also decided to ask the Minister what information should be furnished to the Department of Education in connection with the project, the Minister having advised the council to consult the Department before obtaining plans or calling for competitive designs. The debate on a proposal that sketch plans should be obtained was postponed.
