There are two cases of suspected cholera on board. OPIUM PROHIBITION. Received 40, 1.30 p.m. Pekin, July 19. The Government has prohibited the importation of Persian and Turkish opium from January 1912.
SIPIDO, THE BELGIAN. Received 20, 12.40 a.m. Brussels, July 19. Sipido, the assailant of the late King Edward (then Prince of Wales), in 1000, has latterly been a peaceful citizen, and is a Socialist candidate for Brussels at the next election.
EMPIRE PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION. Received 20. 1.40 a.m. London, July 19. The Houses of Lords and Commons Committee of Oversea Parliamentarians met in the House of Commons and decided to name the recently-formed union "The Empire Parliamnetary Association." A MATADOR IN TORONTO. Received 20, 1.40 a.m. Ottawa, July 19. A Spanish matador applied for permission to hold a bull fight at Toronto. The city police commissioners refused. OBSCENE PICTURES. Received 20, 1.40 a.m. Capetown, July 19. A European store assistant was fined at Buluwayo £3OO and sentenced to 18 months' hard labor for importing ob"<>nc photographs and postcards and selling them to natives. TAX ON BACHELORS. Received 20, 1.40 a.m. Paris, July 19. The municipality nf Lyons has imposed a tax of 10 francs a head on marriageable bachelors, and 5 p"r cent, on rents over £lO a month, to help a fund in aid of large famiiies.
