THE POULTRY SHOW

OPENING TO-DAY. The annual show of the Taranaki [ Pigeon, Poultry, and Canary Society promises to be a huge success. The entries in alj sections easily constitute a record, and if the clerk of the weather does not dhajige his mind the doortakings will do likewise. The secretary, ably assisted by a willing band of workers, has everything well hi hand, and the public can rest assured of an interesting time in viewing some of the best specimens in the North Island of respective breeds of birds. The children's classes are an interesting show in themselves, whilst tho children's cookery classes will show what our future wives and mothers will be able to do in the way of "feediii" the brute."

There will be an interesting display of knotting, lashing and splicing by the Boy Scouts, and the boys of the Technical College will have their usual display of examples of the crafts. A novelty lias been introduced this y»ar in the form of a poultry plucking competition, which will, no doubt, cause amusement.

The principal attraction on Thursday afternoon will be the baby show, for which over thirty babies liave been entered. The secretary asks us to remind mothers showing babies that judging will commence at 2 p.m. in order to allow anyone wishing to get away by tram ample time to do so. The babies will be judged in a room separate from the general show and no persons except those in charge of babies will be allowed to pass the barrier. It is to be regretted that our worthy Mayor, Mr. Tisoh, will be unable through illness to open the show as .advertised, and everyone will wish him a speedy recovery.
