LAND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE SET UP.. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Ni.^lit. A matter exciting a good dea' of interest at the native meeting at Waihi to-day was the election of a committee to administer such lands or moneys, if money were given in lieu of land set aside for the purposes of the Mana. The following five were, finally elected: Mahuta, Temarae (Mahuta's wife), Henare Kaihau, M.P., Ahaiiriri (Mahuta's "Prime Minister"), and Hori Herewini (or the Wharua chief of the Central Waikatos and next in importance as a rangitira to Mahuta). Mahuta's. it was decided, should be a life appointment, while the others should be elected annually. Mr. Kaihau to-dav received a telegram to the effect that Sir ,las. Carroll was leaving Wellington for Waihi on Friday next. In the course of an interview Mr. Kaihau stated that the intention was to decide iit this meeting the procedure to be adopted in canncction with the sale of the lands as specified in the Order of Council of December, 1010, to the Government for settlement purposes, as-well as to enable native owners to decide upon the areas to be sold to the Government, those which were to be retained by themselves for Maori occupation, and those which might be offered for sale to private individuals. Already it had been decided that the Moerangi block, situated between Aotea and Waipa, and embracing 45.000 acres, should be sold to the Government. Other large blocks would be dealt with.
