Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P. for Taumaranui, is m a visit to Wellington. A London cable states that the Rev. Herman Adlcr, chief Jewish rabbi of the British Empire, is dead. Archdeacon Jacob, for the last three years vicar of Christ Church, Wanganui, has accepted the position of the vicar of St. Mary's. Timaru, and leaves for his new charge at the end of the year. Mr. A. H. Kendall, for some time salutary inspector in the Public Health Department's service, and for some years past sanitary inspector and borough engineer for the municipality of Xew Plymouth, has been appointed sanitary inspector under the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.

Dr. Leatham, who holds the appointment as radiographer at the New Plymouth Hospital, will be absent from New Plymouth for about three months dating from August Ist, and he has been granted leave of absence by the Hoard. Mr. F. W. Hall will take charge of the X-ray plant during Dr. Leatham's absence.

A London correspondent states that Mr. Clement (iovett. of New Plymouth, has arrived in England by the P. and 0. Morea, having gone Home on account of the prolonged and serious illness <of one of his daughters. Owing to this he has no settled plans, but he hopes to be able to return to New Zealand early in November.

Mr. S. A. Johnston, who has been attached to the stall" of the New Plymouth Post and Telegraph Office for some years past, has been selected to lill the position of Postmaster at Rongotea. The occasion was marked at the local office yesterday by the presentation to him of a handsome safety shaving outfit. The Chief Postmaster, Mr. A. P. Dryden, made the offering of the gift on behalf of the combined staffs, and in the course of his remarks paid tribute to Mr. Johnston's many excellent qualities, and wished him and his family a large measure of prosperity in the future. Other remarks were made in a felicitous vein, and Mr. Johnston, in reply, assured his hearers that he could not help a feeling of strong regret at leaving New Plymouth, where his official relations had been so happy.
