FOREST FIRES.
NOW UNDER CONTROL. 500 PEOPLE PERISH. By Cable. —Press Association.- —Copyright Ottawa, July 14. The Porcupine fire is under control. Relief parties luive been dispatched to bury the dead. Refugees report that the trails are strewn with the bodies of prospectors. It is estimated that about 500 people perishe<l and 20,000 are homeless. The llames swept a tract 10,000 square miles in area. CARNAGE IX THE STATES. New York, July 14. ( For three days forest fires have been raging in Michigan. Seven persons are known to be dead, and scores are missing. The loss is estimated at .€2.000,000. An area of 1000 square miles was swept bv the flames.
