A FRONTIER FIGHT.
ENGLISH OFFICER WOUNDED BY OUTLAWS. Peshawar, May 28. There has been a sharp encounter with the Hathekcl outlaws concerned in an attack on Tumtum, near Banni, on May 17. The Deputy Commissioner > and Brigadier General O'Donnell, commanding at Bannu, proceeded to the Hathekel village, and after some fighting captured Bai, a notorious outlaw, and his associates. The troops were proceeding to New Gumnti when the main body came under a heavy fire, and sustained several ca«uAlfoies, including Major Cooke, 24tk Punjaubis, slightly wounded. The force returned to Bannu after i»flicting heavy damage on the villages. Major H. W. F. Cooke, who is forty years of age, has had nearly twenty years' service in India, becoming a major in 1909. His war record includes fighting in Wasriristan, Chitral, Chia* and ihe Mohamand country. Bannu is a British post on the Kurrara river, just within.the administrative boundary. Outside the boundary is Waziristan, one of the most troublesome regions on the north-west frontier of India.
