Mr. A. Hatrick, of VVnnganui, wag in New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. Francis William Court is gazetted deputy-registrar of marriages, etc., at Whangamomona.

Mr. G. Tisch, Mayor of New Plymouth, who has been indisposed for a few weeks, is still confined to his room. Mr. P. S. Whiteombc, secretary of the Education Board, has been indisposed for a day or two, and unable to attend at the office. Mr. J. K. Hannah, of the head staff of the Bank of New Zealand, is again temporarily relieving the manager at Patea, Mr. W. Kennedy, who is absent through illness.

At Inglewood on Thursday evening, Dr. Gault was presented, at a social got up in honor of the occasion hv the members of Court Inglewood, A.0.F., with an address in appreciation cf his services to the lodge. The Acting-Prime Minister (Sir Jomeg Carroll) received last night the following cablegram from Sir Joseph Ward, Bart, despatched on Friday from Marseilles: "Just leaving by the Ruapehu for Port Said. All well."

At Holy Trinity Church, Stratford, on Thursday, Miss Gladys James, second daughter of Mr. S. 11. James, was married to Mr. H. Stuart Curtis (late of Chicago, U.S.A.), only son of Mr. C. S. Curtis. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. A. Butler, vicar of the church.

On Wednesday evening the body of the late Father Haire, ofKaponga, arrived at Eltham by the express fromWellington. It remained in the Catholic Church at Eltham until Thursday morning, when solemn High Mass was celebrated in the presence of Archbishop Redwood. The celebrant of the Mass was the Very Rev. F. Power, Hawera; Deacon Father Ecleton, St. Patrick's College, Wellington; Sub-Deacon Father Cahill, Dannevirke, with Father Rows, Carterton, Master of Ceremonies. Twenty-one priests attended. The Archbishop preached a beautiful panegyric on the deceased priest, who -was onlv 33 years ,of age. Tho funeral procession, which left Eltham at 10.J5 a.m.. was the largest ever seen in the district. The body was taken into the church at Kaponga, where again the Archbishop addressed the people, after which theprocession reformed and wended its way to the cemetery, where the last riteV were performed and the final prayer* said by the Archbishop, amidst the very profound grief of Father Haire's sorrowing people. It is understood that the Rev. Father Ainsworth, at present at Hokitika, will succeed Father Haire.
