LONDOiN WOOL SALES. tsy Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright London, July 13. There was strong competition for crosabreds, which remain unchanged. There was a capital selection of merinos, which show a hardening tendency. NEW PLYMOUTH WOOL, SHEEPSKIN, HIDE & TALLOW SALES. L. A. NOLAN & OX'S REPORT.
We held our usual sale of hides, etc., on the 4th inst., and submitted better than our usual catalogue to a representative attendance of buyers. Skins were inclined to weaken slightly, some lines to the extent of %& per lb, others, damaged lines particularly, about M>d. Heavy cows and ox maintained last month's levels, others of first quality declined about %d, while wet and poor conditioned lots dropped '/id to %& per lb. Tallow receded 10s to 16s per ton. Sundries sold at about last month's rates. Matthews and Bennett report that I!u're was a fair entry of cattle in their Jnglewood yards on Wednesday last, and most lots changed hands at the following prices:—Calves 25s to 30s, yearling £2 la to £2. 3s <id, steers £9-B*, da:;"/ cows £5 5s to £7 12s, store cows &.Z 2s €d to £3 2s fid, fat cows £5 la, empty heifers £3 4s Od.
SOUTHERN MARKETS. ADDINTrTON. At the Addington live stock market there were fair entries of stock and a good attendance. Beef sold at advanced rates. Stores sold well. Fat lambs were rather easier, and prime fat sheep showed an advance, while medium and inferior sorts were easier. Eat pigs sold freely at late rates. Store cattle were in rather better demand, and good dairy cows sold well.
Store siieep—Forward wethers sold up to 14s 4d, others lis to 12a, good merino wethers 8s lOd, good two-tooth ewes 16s 3d, good four and six-tooth ewes to 15s 7d, medium 10s >6d, sound-mouth 14a to 14s 3d, aged 7s to 9s, culls 4s lOd upwards, half-bred ewe hoggets Us 3d to 13s 4d, others lie 4d to 12s Od, good lines mixed sexes 10s (5d to lis 6d, medium 8s to fls 6d, wether hoggets 9« 3d to 10s 9d, culls tis.
Pat lambs—Prices ranged from 12s to 17a sd, and a small lot up to 18s 9d. Fat sheep—Prime wethers 19s to 255, extra to 35s Od, medium 16s Od to 18s Od, liglit 13s 6d to 16s, prime ewes 16s to 21s 2d, ertra to 24s Id, medium 12s f>d to 15s Cd, aged and liglit 8« 6d to 12s, merino wethers 14s 7d to 15s 7d.
The supply of beef comprised 236 head, the bulk being of good to prime quality, and included some from the North Island. There was a keen demand in consequence of the short yarding, and values advanced about 3s per 1001b over the previous week's rates. Prime beef sold at 25s 6d to 29s 6d, eitra to 355, medium 22s to 255, and oow and inferior, which was in shorter supply, 19s to 21s per lb. Steers made £7 to £ll 10s, extra to £l3 12s 6d, heifere £5 5a to £lO ss, and cows £5 5s to £B.
Veal calves formed the usual yarding, and they sold at ii 6d to 545.
A small yarding of store cattle met with rather more enquiry, yearlings realising 24s to 25s 6d, 15 to 18-months sorts £2 6s to £3 18, two-year steers £3 17s Od, three-year steers" £5 to £6 2s 6d, dry cows 34s to £4 10s. Dairy cows brought £3 10s to £9 5s and extra to £ll 15s.
The entry of fat pigs was under the average in numbers, and there was a fairly keen demand at firmer rates. Choppers sold up to 85s, large baconers 50s to 57s 6d, smaller 38s to 45s (equal to 4V 4 d per lb). Large porkers realised
32s to 365, smaller 25s to 30s (equal to 4%d per lb). 'inere were few store pigs offered,, and no change in prices, medium sorts making 14s to 21s and smaller 6s to 12s.
BURNSIDE. At the Burnside stock market 167 head of fat cattle were yarded, just about sufficient for the trade's requirements. Only a few prime sorts came forward. The sale opened at an advance on last week's prices, but values gradually receded, and closed on a par with the rates ruling at last Rales. Best bullocks realised £ll' 10s to £l3, extra to £ls 2s Od, medium £8 10s to £9 15b, light and inferior £0 5s to £7 10s, best heifers £6 10s to £B, medium £5 to £6, best cows up to £B. Of fat sheep 4587 yere yarded—a big yarding. The easier tone of the London market was reflected at the sale, and export buyers operated with caution. As a consequence prices all over went back about Is Od compared with last week's quotations. Best wethers realised 20s (id to 21s 6d, extra to 22s 3d, medium 17s 6d to 18s Od, light and unfinished 14s Od to 16s, best ewes 10s (id to 18s, extra to 22s Od, medium 13s to I+s 6d, unfinished 10s to lis.
Two thousand fat lambs were penned. The extreme prices ruling of late were not maintained. Export buyers were operating at reduced limits owing to the easier tendency of the London market. Compared with last week prices went back from Is 6d to 2s. JOHNSONVILLE.
Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:— A full entry of cattle and sheep met rather a dull sale. Cattle—Prime heavy bullocks realised £lO 2s 6d to £lO 17s 6d, lighter £9 10s to £9 15s, light £9 5s to £9 7s 6d. Sheep—Good wethers ■l7s Bd, plain wethers Ids Id, prime ewes 15s 9d to 10s, plain ewes 14s 3d, prime lambs Lis to 12s 2d, good lambs 10s.
