ELECTRICAL EXPERT ARRIVES. By tho Ctrinthie on Tuesday arrived Mr. Parry, the electrical expert whom the Government specially engaged in England to .inaugurate its hydro-electri-cal scheme under the legislation of last session. With him also hare come Mrs. Parry and family. Mr. Parry is comparatively a young man, and is evidently both enthusiastic and a man with whom to think is to act.

In London, Mr. Parry, associated with a partner, carried out large tramway contracts in London, Dublin and elsewhere, and converted the Central London railway front the steam to the electric system. Large electric power installations wero provided for companies in Yorkshire and Lancashire, and Mr. Parry lias been connected with water-power schemes in Canada and Mexico. He has also equipped light railways for mines, including the New Zoaluiul'Crown Mines.

Mr. Parry told a Dominion reporter that, speaking on information that liad been supplied him about our country, he felt New Zealand should not only compete with steam power, but. that hydroelectric power should work out" far cheaper. In this respect wo had a considerable advantage, in that we had lakes and rivers from which direct supplies could be obtained without the necessity lor storage. Our condition's, he believed, would be similar to those in Switzerland.

As to transmission, Mr. Parry said there would be very little waste in" transmission np to 500 miles. As to the cost of electric power, it was supplied by a company in Yorkshire at an ave-rage of four-fifths of a penny per unit. "It is my ambition/' Mr. Parrv said, "to make New Zealand's power supply the cheapest in the world." He starts on liia duties almost immediately.
