THE WAY BENEFIT

[ MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. 1 A meeting of the Way Benefit Com- | mittee was lield in the Town Hall on [Tuesday evening, about fifteen menii tiers being present. Mr. <3. W. Browne presided. Mr. James Clarke reported that, as asked by the committee, he had interviewed the proprietors of the Royal Pictures with regard to giving a biograph entertainment in aid of the fund. Messrs. Crust and Gjedsted were prepared to given an entertainment free of cost to the sommittee so far as the programme and staff were concerned, the committee to arrange for the theatre and the advertising. Mr. J. McLeod reported that Mr. G. H. Saunders had also agreed to give a biograph entertainment in aid of the fund. Both offers were accepted with hearty thanks. Further arrangements for these entertainments were left in the hands of Messrs. McLeod and Clarke.

With re'gard to the suggestion that the Fire Brigade ball should b« repeated in aid of the fund, Mr. F. C. J. Bellringer stated that the ladies' committee which had charge of the ball had asked for a little time to consider the matter, as some of the members were doubtful whether the ball would prove a success, although they were eager to assist the fund. Mr. J. Clarke suggested that it might be better to get the ladies' committee to sell tickets for the picture shows, instead of repenting the ball. It was decided to ask the ladies' committee to meet on Friday to consider the matter.

A sub-committee was appointed t» wait upon the proprietors of the Glideaway Skating Rink to see if they would give a benefit performance. It was decided to open voluntary subscription lists and to ask the editors of the Tarannki Dailv News and the Taranaki Herald to publish the lists. Mr. W. Sadler was appointed hon. secretary to the committee, and Mr. J. Paton was appointed hon, auditor.
