WILFUL WASTE.
To the Editor. Sir,—l note that tlie Margit is to be lull lusted with 300 tons of sand on lier return voyage. I trujt that tlio Harbor Board will see that the grey drift sand is used as ballast, as if rich mire black ironsand is to be taken away as ballast:, this is spoliation indeed, as the black sand contains metals of inestimable value and to allow this sand to be u.scd as ballast would be wilful waste ol public property and wealMi, and I, for one, protest against any attempt to surrepitiou*ly ship valuable deposits such as these black .sands are awav under the pretext of ship's ballast I call the attention of the authorities to guard the public interest in this matter ot importance, as to denude the beaches of sand by shipping it as ballast is sheer mndimss.—l am. etc. 'vigilant.
