The sugar cutters are returning to work in small numbers. Many nonunion men are arriving from the south. Twenty-five strikers have left the Bundaberg camp for work on the railways. MODERNISING EDUCATION. Sydney, July 11. Mr. Beebv is placing £2:>o,ooo'on the estimates for the purpose of modernising the school system and making it more attractive to teachers. He will also endeavor to increase the staff. THE MINES BILL.
Sydney, July 11. The Minister of Mines met a confidence of owners and employers and dftcussed the Mines Amendment Bill, recently introduced in the Assembly. None of the principal points of the Bill were eliminated. EPIDEMIC OF MEASLES. Adelaide, July 11. An epidemic of measles- has been introduced at Port Adelaide by immigrants, t and all the schools arc closed. Nearly three hundred cases have been reported within a month.
