THE FEDERAL FAMILY.

A PROPOSAL REJECTED. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, July 10. The Acting-Premier has written to the Federal' Government rejecting the proposal to pay as from July 1 last, 3 per cent, interest on transferred properties and to set aside not less than a half per cent as sinking fund for the liquidation of the debt. He claims that the current rate of interest, 3% per cent., should be paid, and considers that the Commonwealth propositi is likely seriously to rupture the relations between the Commonwealth and the States. He is taking steps to call an interstate- conference to deal with the matter.
