REPORTS. ■ The various reports of officers and committees, as published in Monday's issue,' were adopted. The manager will be asked to submit an estimate of cost of grubbing "the flat" at the abattoir. He is .also' to be instructed to report on the cost of all works in his charge as completed. Cr. Mannix drew attention' to the uncompleted state of the kerbing and channelling in Devon street west near Mt. Edgecombe street, and the engineer explained that some alterations in the road levels would be needed to complete the work as scheduled.—The Council will visit the work on Thursday afternoon.
After some discussion, it was decided that the engineer put in hand as early as possible the work of laying pipes at Hobson street near the rubbish depot. Or. Stocker urged that Devon, Currie, and Brougham streets sbould be attended to at the earliest opportunity. Only one tender was received for redecking the old Henui railway bridge, and ns it was considerably in excess of the engineer's estimate the tender was not accepted, and the matter was referred to the Works Committee. MANGOREI PIPE-BRIDGE.
Mr. S. Orbell, Taranaki conuty engineer, wrote in reference to the provision for carrying water-pipes at the Mangorei bridge (which ,is to be reerected by the County Council), that he estimated the cost of making provision for the pipes to he carried under the bridge at £23. The pipes would be carried between two girders and suspended from them by iron straps placed at intervals. He would be inclined to let the pipes stay where they were and build a little bridge under "them where necessary.
The borough engineer said the present pipe bridge would last for years. The county engineer will'be thanked for his courtesy in supplying the CmmeM' with an estimate of the cost of making provision for carrying the water-pipes on the Mangorei bridge, and that the County Council he informed that the Council does not desire any such provision to be made nt present.'
