Dr. Truby King is on a visit to New Plymouth.
Sir Phillip Watts, Director of Naval Construction, lias retired from the Admiralty.
Messrs. Cecil Wright, C. Arnold-Jones, and W. F. McAllum were passengers for Auckland last night per s.s. Barawa. An Ottawa cablegram states that it is practically certain that Sir Frederick Borden, Minister for the Militia, will succeed Lord Stratheona as High Commissioner for Canada.
Mr. James C. Morny lias been elected as a representative of the Borough Council on the New Plymouth Fire Board, in succession to Mr. T. Buxton, who resigned when appointed to the secretaryship of the hoard. At the Borough Council meeting last night, on the motion of Cr. W. Amburv. a resolution was pulsed expressing its regret at the Mayor's illness and the desire of the councillors that he would soon he restored to health and be amongst them again.
