Tiie placed horses in the National Steeplechase were: Confide 1, Leah Kleshma 2, Grafnan 3. All acceptors started. Squirm was the first to move out from Harvest, Central, Green, Leah Kleslma and Confide, but Aity led over the first fence, with Obelisk and Squirm next. Ripon took the lead from Arty at the bridge soon afterwards. Arty baulked when approaching the straight, and Hawtnorn led out of the straight, but Dycaon dashed to the front, and for four lengths led along the river from Hawthorn, Central, Green and Ripon. Grafnax took command at the seven furlongs post, and had four lengths' lead of Confide, followed by Squirm, Lycaon, ami Ripon. Grafnax had the advantage of Confide over the last fence. Confide then took command, and won by five lengths. Leah Klesna beat Grafnax by four lengths. Time, omin. 41 1 / t sec.
