BRIDGE. Last Friday evening Mrs. Heard gave a most enjoyable bridge party at her charming residence inTiyne street. The card tables were arranged in the draw-ing-room, and the supper (a most recherche one) was served in the dining-room, the floral decorations being cainelias of a very delicate shade of pink. The prizes were won by Mrs. Frascr (first), and Mrs. W. Newman (second), Mrs. A. Fookes receiving the consolation prize. Mrs. Heard received her guests in a rich black satin, with a chemisette of frilled Valenciennes lace, finished with berth,® of real lace, lovely matrix ornaments; Mts. Jones, moss green veiled bodice, braided with oriental bands; Miss Jones, dainty oyster grey ninon, with folded bodice, relieved witli large pink rose; Mrs. Haworth, pale blue chrystalliene, inset with cream lace; Miss Read, reseda 1 green taffetas corsage, prettily finished with cream lace matrix necklet; Mrs. Newman, wedgwood blue taffetas, cream lace vest and sleeves braided with black; Mrs. Rollo, black silk, relieved with cream; Mrs. Hirst, biscuit colored voile, cream lace vest piped with emerald green; Mrs. Humphries (Auckland), very pretty dove grey crepe de chine over a darker shade of satin chaintense: Miss Bedford, black taffetas, piped emerald green; Mrs. John*, cinnamon brown taffeta, cream lace vest and undersleevea; Mrs. M. DANCE. The pupils of 'Misses ITallett and Bedford gave a most enjoyable long night in the Brougham Street Hall. The floral decorations for tho supper table were pinK and red camelias, which produced a very charming effect. AFTERNOON TEA. Til the Hygienic Tea Rooms last Thursday, a most enjoyable afternoon tea was held, in honor of Mrs. E. M. Smith, who is leaving shortly for her futurel home in Levin. On account of her| most wonderful and energetic services to the town in general, a presentation' was made, which took the form of a purse of sovereigns. Mrs. Dockrill, a fellow worker, of twenty-five years' standing, made the presentation, and suitable speeches were made by members of the different societies of which Mrs. Smith lias assisted. Mrs. E. ' A most enjoyable pianoforte recital was given by Misses Warren and Lea- | tliam last Thursday evening at Messrs. I Collier & Co.'s music saloon, quite sixty I guests being present. Every item was performed with wonderful'technique and r decision, and was received with keen enjoyment. The gem of the evening was a Concerto played on two pianos. Amongst the audience were Mesdaines Leatham, Home, Fitzherbert, Woodard, A. Jones, Rollo, Paul, Fookes, Wylic, Gilntour, Heard, Cannell, Griffiths, Misses Standish, Stanford, Evans, Taylor, Plimer (2), Lennon (2), Cutfield, Weldon, Armstrong, Hirst, Renaud, Mathews, "Wliitcombe, Watson, Connell, Tike; Messrs. Lennon. Woodard, Hirst, BRIDGE." Misses Uewlcy gave a very enjoyable brijge party on Tuesday evening, in honor of the Misses Pilmcr.
Mrs. Dowling, at her residence, gave a very jolly little dance last night, and all those who were invited spent a most enjoyable time.
Mrs. Butler gave a bridge party last night (Friday) at her residence in Courtney street. PERSONAL ITEMS. Misses Pilmer (2), who have been visiting Dr. and Mrs. Leatham, left this morning (Saturday) for their home in Masterton.
Miss Weldon (Ditnedin) is the guest of Mrs. E. Griffiths, Fitzroy. f
