The Shipping Federation's scale of indemnity for shipowners compelled to lay up their vessels varied from 2d to %d per ton per dav, according to the gross register. TROUBLE IN MANCHESTER. MARTIAL ARRAY. London, July fi. There has been much rioting in Manchester, due to rowdies, many of whom are boys. Troops to the number of 750 and 300 policemen have arrived.. The miners in two collieries at Salford have ceased work out of sympathy for the dockers. Several cotton mills have closed, owing to the shortage of coal. The Mayor of Salford—which is prac- | ticallv part of Manchester, being only separated from it by a narrow stream, the Irwell —has placarded the borough with a warning that the Riot Act is likely to be read. ■ Cartel's in Manchester ask for a 54 hours' week, the official recognition of the union, 27s a week for drivers of one horse, anu 29s a week for drivers of two horses, being an increase of 2s a week. RIOTS IN AMSTERDAM. Amsterdam, July 6. There has been strike rioting, in the shipping quarter. The' police were stoned, and the troops and rioters exchanged shots. Three rioters and a policeman were wounded; DOCKERS' STRIKE' OVER.
