HOROU(JH COUNCIL. The usual monthly mooting of the above was held on Wednesday evening. Present: The Mayor, Crs. Brabant, lilaik. Klenner, Landman, liirdling, Ratlonbm'y and Tate. COBRESPOXDEXCK. From Mrs. E. Rattenbury, asking that some attention be paid to the'footpath on Leslie street.
From Messrs Horthwick anil Sons, asking for a reduction in the water charge, which would encourage them to use more.
From Mr. John Andrews, asking that a footpath be made to his new residence on Brooke's Terrace.
From Messrs Roy and Nicholson, advising that the arbitration case between the Spiral Pipe Company and the Council would take place on the 13th inst. Mr. Stead, on behalf of Mr. F. L. Harrison, applied for permission to have a private right-of-way between two of his sections.
The engineer's, foreman's and overseer's reports were read. The building surveyor reported that buildings to the value of £4!>lf> had been erected during the past six months, making a total of over £IO,OOO for the year.
The matter of the appointment of a lire inspector was left in the hands of the Mayor and Cr. Brabant to interview the liro brigade captain. The Waterworks Committee reported after a further inspection of the settling tank that it would be inadvisable to roof it over, and recommended a side, wall only.—The recommendation was adopted and the work is to be carried out.
It. was decided to accept the offer of T. - Boldt to purchase the shed at the head works.
The resolution striking a five-farthing rate and the payment from ordinary revenue of interest on the street loan account were confirmed.
Footpaths on Brooke's Terrace, Leslie and Elliot streets are to receive attention.
The Waterworks Committee are to confer with Messrs Hortlnviek and Sons re water charge and report at next meeting.
Mr. P. L. Harrison's application for a private right-of-way was granted. The engineer's action in letting metal contract for McLean street was confirmed and the seal is to be affixed.
The Works Committee reported having arranged with J. Coleman to make a road to his property at a cost of £l2, the Council to find* pipes.—The action was confirmed.
It was resolved to ask the District Health Officer to visit Wnitnra and make an inspection with the overseer.
ft was decided to obtain an estimate of the cost of concrete channelling round "the block."
The engineer is to he authorised to call for tenders for metalling Parris street, tenders to close at next meeting. The Alayor was authorised to call a public meeting for the purpose of discussing the question of the erection of a town hall.
Accounts amounting to £97 13s 4d were paused for payment and the meeting adjourned.
