A LABOR PARTY
T. E. TAYLOR'S ADVOCACY,
By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night.
Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P., addressed a meeting at Richmond to-night on the need of a Labor party in the New Zealand Parliament. He strongly urged the formation of a Labor party, and supported its programme. He said neither the Government nor the Opposition parties had a policy, and the policy submitted by the Labor party was the only one before the country. At the conclusion of his speech, there was an animated discussion between Mr. Russell, M.P., in whose electorate the meeting was held, and Mr. Taylor. It was pointed out by Mr. Ruscsll that he was not a member of the Labor party, and wouldn't sign its pledge. Mr. Taylor, replying, said he wouldn't be bound by any party ties, and as far as lie was concerned every candidate was free to sign or not, as it pleased him, but he considered the Labor party was perfectly justified in taking some precautions to ensure that members elected to Parliament through the efforts of the party will support the platform of the party.
