PROVINCIAL INSTEAD OF METROPOLITAN COMMITTEES. Thames, Last Night. The Thames Jockey Club is taking decisive measures with regard to racing matters. They comment adversely on the action of the Commissioners in sacrificing one day meetings, and the club is initiating a movement to secure the formation of provincial instead of metropolitan committees, the metropolitan clubs to appoint two representatives and country clul» one representative for at least each three clubs. The club calls the attention of the Government to the gross injustice to the •mailer clubs due to the action of the Racing. Commissioners.
GISBORNE R.C. MEETING. Gisborne, Last Night. The Gisborne Racing Club's steeplechase meeting was commenced to-day in beautiful weather, and in the presence of it large attendance. The «ourse waa in good going order, and the sum of £71)34 was put through the tote, as against £45U2 for the corresponding day of last year. On the last race £1029 was put on the machine, a record for any oue race in Poverty Bay. Results:— Handicap Hurdle Race, 1% miles.— Artie 1, Tekainui 2, Appelles 3. Won by half a length. Time, 3inui 25see. Maiden Hack Race, 4 furlongs.— Golden Or 1, Tyne Lass 2, Vaultress 3. Won eaisly. Time, 52sec. Flying Handicap, 6 furlonga.—Er«i 1, Terakato 2, Scotch 3. Won comfortably by a length. Time, lmin 18y,8ee. Park Steeplechase Handicap, about 3 miles.—Dhudeen 1, First Barrell 2. Won by two lengths. Time, umin 40y,sec., Hack Flat Handicap, 7 furlongs.— Ardfcrt 1, Stourton 2, Miss Ada 3. Won easily by 3 lengths. Time, lmin. 34 4-58ec.
Trial Steeplechase Handicap, 2 miles. —Wanstead 1, Waioliiku 2, The Plough 3. Wanstead won very comfortably. Time, tain 13aec.
Winter Oats Handicap, a mile aad a. distance.—lney 1, Erin 2, Sublime 3. A splendid race. Won by a head. Time, 2min 3 2-ssec.
