FRED STEPHENS' BENEFIT. We give the following press report of "The Girl from Chicago" and " 'Arry and 'Arriet," which the Taylor Carrington Musical Comedy Company arc producing at the Theatre Royal to-morrow night:—Standing room only was to be obtained last evening when the popular Taylor-Carrington Company submitted a double bill to a holiday audience Guuging aright the preference of the public for something to amuse them, the P u t °n two laughable comedies, The Girl from Chicago," a typical American sketch, and "'Arry and 'Arriet," a study in character. The firstnamed delineated the old story of the course of true love which, in this ease was not over smooth at first, but eventually came right. As Judge Brims, whose plans went agley, 'Mr. Taylor was excellent, whjle McTavish, the father from the land o' cakes,, was a splendid representation. How the old judge and the father were outwitted in their designs for the future of Virgie, the daughter (Mills CaTrington) makes too lone a atory, but the method and manner wera entirely in accord with the wishes of the ""Arry and 'Arriet" was simpTy pie tale of mistress and maid ana master and man changing places te discover the real motives of a baronet s impending marriage with an heiress. Miss Carrmgton has seldom done better work than in the study of the mistress, while Mr. Taylor, as the psuedo baronet was inimitable. The other parts wem played m excellent taste. The interpolated songs were a feature of the production, walls being insisted upon, not)n , £ anagan," "The Golden Daffodil, and Arriet." The company is to be congratulated upon its change to comedy work. °
