LONG WOOL SHEEP. Sydney. July 5. At the annual meeting of the Longwool Sheep Breeders' Association it was stated that the spread of closer settlement had resulted in an increased demand for this class of sheep. Speakers strongly urged the necessity of blocking subsidies to shows which give prizes indiscriminately to British breeds, whether of the true type or not—a matter which the Minister of Agriculture promised to consider. The meeting amended the rules with n view to this end.

One speaker declared there was a probability that European markets would be opened t<? Australian meat, and if this were done there would be such a development of British breeds that the development in New Zealand would seem verv small indeed. Received 5, 10 p.m. Sydney, July 5.
