BRUMMAGEM.
Tci the Editor. I Kir, —I see in the columns of your | paper under date of June 21st, an article on "jewellery fiends" copied from an exchange. I think in fairness to the trade generally that the journal ought to have been more explicit in its remarks, because it has not made any di*tinction whatever between men who have no address, and no fixed place of abode, and firms who employ travellers who carry nothing but the best money can buy. The paper you quote from has apparently been hit up by someone on this subject, and actually says it did not attack reputable firms, and, as I said before, where has it made any distinction? If I say "paper fiends" I eouhl mean it a slap for all papers, and in doing this I am injuring innocent traders. However, Mr. Editor, being in the trade myself and employing a number of travellers, I wish to say emphatically that there is no truth in tiie statement as far as I am concerned. 1 was born in New Plymouth myself, and my father was tlie first schoolmaster in the town, some 35 years ago, so that further comment is unnecessary from me.—l am, etc., S. J. McKEE.
