MELBOURNE TRAMWAYS.
Oi REVISING FARES.
By Cable—Pr«*e A««ori»tion—Copyright. Melbourne, July 1.
The Tramway Fares Revision Committee has presented its report. The recommendations include that the through fares up to two miles be a penny cash, over two miles twopence, that transfers at present given with threepenny fares be given with two-penny, that workmen's fares be a penny each journey, and that time of workmen's fare be extended to 7.45 a.m. As an alternative it, is recommended that the Government purchase the company's right in 101 G. The actual dividends paid by the company on a capital of £250,000 in twenty-four years varied from 9.(! to 7.2 per cent. There was no doubt the company exercised an absolutely free hand, Parliament having slept on its rights of revision of the agreement.
