Frank Hutchen, the musical prodigy who has attained great success in London, where he has been studying for some years, is returning to New Zealand. A Press Association message state* that Sir Wilfrid Laurier has announced J the resignation by Lord Strathcona of the Canadian High Commissionership in London. The death took place in the New Plymouth Hospital on Friday of Mr. F. W. Carpenter, an erstwhile old resident of Hawera. For a considerable time he lad been in very bad health, and some months ago sold out at Hawera mi came to New Plymouth. Mr. E. Snowball, who has for many years been manager at the New Plymouth Sash and Door- Company, 'is severing his connection with the'concern, and leaves New Plymouth shortly for Auckland, having been appointed to the responsible' position of manager for the Mountain Kimu Timber Company. Mr. Snowball this month completes thirty years' service with the Sash anil Door Company.
Mr. William Oml died at Fealherston on Thursday, aged eeighty years. He arrived in Adelaide in 1847, and after a sojourn in Australia in the early stirring days, left for Gabriel's Gully, which he reached in 1801. Three years later Mr. Card left for the West Coast, where ha lived for many years and made numerous friends. . He subsequently removed to Featherston. The deceased was a brother of the late Mr. John Card, and an uncle of Mr. J. W. Card, solicitor, of Featherston.
