ACCIDENT ON MAIN TRUNK.

The express train which left Auckland at 9.15 last night was Hearing Te Kauwhata station about 11 p.m. when it caught the siding points, and the engine and mail van ran down the siding and the rest of the train travelled along the main line. Four of the first carriages were dragged diagonally across by the engine and derailed. The driver promptly shut off steam and stopped in fifty yards, jarring the pasfwngere and breaking two windows, but injuring no one except a lady, whose arm :was cut with the broken glass. The passengers were detained over seven hours, and were then transferred to the morning express from Wellington, and with the mail van proceedea on the way. The disaster might have been a very serious one but for the driver's promptitude. Traffic will bo seriously impeded on the line all to-day. Two men have been suspended. The train will not reach Wellington till ten o'clock to-night. The accident was apparently due to an irregularity at the points. Wellington, Last Night. The Main Trunk train from Auckland, which met with a slight mishap at Tekauwhata, arrived in Wellington at 10 o'clock tonight, just under six hours las;e.
