THE VICTORIAN SYSTEM. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, Tune 28. The Licenses Reduction Board has closed seven further hotels in Melbourne. Since the board was created 502 hotels have been closed, and compensation amounting to '£104,808 has been paid. The chairman made a comparison of the system with local option, and pointed out that in a similar period under the latter New South Wales hod closed 338 hotels. It was estimated that by 1914 Victoria would close 800' and New South Wales 425. Under local option there was a tendency for districts with too many hotels to vote for continuance.
