j » . " A MAGNIFICENT SIGHT. By cable.—Preis AwociaWcm.—Copyright Sydney, June 27. After the first check at Frierthnall's, printers and paper box manufacturers, in Pitt street, the fire gained rapidly until 1&30 p.m., when the roof fell in ] and helped to crash the flames. It was first noticed at 10.30 p.m. Being in the centre of the city, the whole brigade turned- out and attacked' the fire on all sides, but the men were greatly hampered by the fact that the building, which was of five storeys, was situated off the main street and was surrounded by extremely narrow lanes. Lines of hose were carried through and over other tall buildings near by, but by' that time the building was well .flight, and the firemen were able to Jo little. Huge quantities of burning papers were carried half a mile away, and caused con-.: giderahle anxiety until it began to rain. The myriads of sparks made a magnificent sight, and crowds watched the fire throughput the night. The stock and machinery were insured | in various offices for £3,),000. and the damage is estimated at £50,000. LOSSES COVERED BY INSURANCE. Received 27, 10 p.m. Sydney, June 27. The ruins of the fire are 6till smoldering. The cause of the fire is a mystery. The firm's loss is estimated at £27,000, j and is fully covered by insurance, being distributed among a large number of companies. The largest individual liability is £3500, and the smallest £SOO. The employees made idle by the fire number 250. Arrangements are being made for the firm to re-start work immediately.
