A STORMY VOYAGE.

WIMMERA'S ROUGH PASSAGE. Auckland, June 20. The Huddart-Parker Company's intercolonial trader Wimmera, which arrived from Sydney early this morning, encountered exceptionally heavy weather for the lirst twenty-four hours she was at The vessel did not leave Sydney •until G p.m. on Wednesday last, and, in reaching Auckland between 3 and 4 o'clock this morning, she has made a fair passage, all things, considered. The WinK mera met with strong winds and seas long before the Sydney heads were behind her, and by D p.m. was in the grip of a heavy south-west gale ,which raised a high beam sea. The gale continued to increase in fury, and great seas broke onboard, doing much minor damage. At 1.30 a.m. the vessel was hove-to, and was not put on her course again until six hours later. The gale had then moderated, but had not spent itself until i the evening. hile the gale waa at ita height the passengers and crew suffered no little inconvenience. The well deck was flooded all the time, big green Beaut constantly coming on board. The skylight oyer the engineers' alley-way was stove in, letting great quantities o< water .l.elow, so that the allev-way ana the oflicer.s' rooms were lloo'ded, "there being several feet of water in the allev. the water found its wav through a dividing floor to the ladies' cabins, andbailing operations had to be resorted to, though no damage was caused here The breakwater at the after-end of' the saloon deck was damaged, and the covering of the steam-pipes was badlv bent, fhrough the breaking in of two portHoles the storeroom was flooded. Tho water also found its way into the fore, cabin, but no damage was sustained there. The ladder leading to the boat deck was swept away, as were also some woodwork on the saloon deck and a few feet of the handrails on the starboard side, where all the damage was Mistamed
