FOOTBALL
BENEFIT MATCH. The tickets for the benefit football match in the Recreation Grounds on Thursday, between the Star and Tukapa teams, for the Carbine and Dan O'Brien shields respectively, are selling very rapidly. Applications for repeat supplies of | ticket are coming in from the inland towns in very gratifying numbers. At Stratford and Inglewood especially tickets arc being freely disposed of. An application was received last night from Stratford to delay the afternoon train, or, if possible, start the match earlier, as a large number from that town wish to be present to show their sympathy with the object of assisting the widow and orphans of the late Mr. "Jim" Way. The match itself promises to (be a distinctly good one, and opinions are very evenly divided as to the merits of the respective teams this season. A further supply of tickets for the match is being printed to-day, and those who wish to secure an extra supply to dispose of are asked to apply to any member of the committee. It is confidently expected that a £SO gate will be secured. A public meeting is to be called within a few days to discuss ways and means of augmenting the funds for this very deserving object.
