BETTING OX LICENSED PREMISES. By Telegraph.— Prws Association. id Palmerston N., Monday. ij At, the Magistrate's Court here this morning, John Moughan was fined £25 on each of tivo charges of betting on licensed premises. A STOIIMY VOYAGE. Auckland, Monday. The Whmnera had a stormy passage from Sydney, and was hovc-to for six hours on Thursday morning. Heavy seas repeatedly broke aboard, flooding some ca.bins and causing minor damage. DEPUTATIONS TO HON. J-'OWLDS. Auckland. Monday. A deputation from Auckland University College Board interviewed the Minister of Education and asked for a subsidy .for the establishment of a conservatorium of music in Auckland. It was estimated that the expenditure would be £2500 a year, and that after three years the college would be selfsupporting.' The Minister expressed himself favorable to the project. A deputation from the Photographers' Association asked the Minister to support a Bill extending copyright to portraiture.
