■ -ALLEGED CULPABLE NEGLIGENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association, invereargill, Last Night. the Magi-tratc's Court to-day, Ernest William Challis was charged with culpable negligence, resulting in the death of William Arthur Mitchell. The case arose out of the death of Mitchell, who, while cycling on the North road at night, was killed as a result of a collision -with a taxi-cab driven by Challis. Accused, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial. IRISH DELEGATES' COLLECTIONS. Christchurch, Last Night. Messrs. Donovan and Redmond,' Irish envoys, arrived overland from the West Coast to-night. They stated that at the thirteen places visited by them in Nelson and on the West Coast they have collected ,£ 1.150. In the North Island approximately £SOOO had been collected, and in the South Island (irrespective of the amount collated by Mr. Hazelton) between £OOOO and £7OOO. They met with hearty receptions on the West Coast. THE TAKAPUNA. Wellington, Last Night. The steamer Takapuna, which was disabled at Westport last week, left that port in tow of the Komata at 10.18 a.m. yesterday, was berthed at Clyde Quav wharf at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The journey was accomplished in good time, tine weather being experienced. The Takapuna's rudder is lashed to the ship, but the extent of the damage is not known. She will shortly go on the slip for examination.
