THE SHEFFIELD CHOIR.
ARRIVAL IN NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph.-Press Ass»ciation. Auckland, Monday. The Wimmera, with the Sheffield Choir on board, arrived at 4 o'clock this morning. She was delaved by stormy weather. The steamer berthed at 9 o'clock. An immense crowd on the wharf gave the choir and its leaders a moat enthusiastic reception. Each member of the choir was presented by the reception committee with a card with the name of his or her host or hostess. Then, at a crowded gathering in the big wharf shed, Mr. H. Brett, president of the reception committee extended to Dr. Coward and the choir a cordial reception on behalf of the musical people of the Dominion. He expressed his belief that the tour in New Zealand would be a financial success, and was sure the visit would prove a stimulus to music from end to end of the Dominion. The official reception takes place this afternoon, when the Mayor and the Minister for Education will be among the speakers. Drs. Harriss and Coward I acknowledged the hearty welcome. The former stated that the choir had looked forward to their first visit to the Garden, of Eden of the oversea dominions, New Zealand. Palmerston North, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive of the Sheffield Choir it was decided to telegraph to the management of the Choir stating that dissatisfaction at the orchestra not participating in the Palmerston concert h'ad affected the sale of tickets, and asking that at least one item for choir with orchestra be included in place of one of the announced items.
