The party of la<lie.s and gentlemen from the Hawaiian Islands, who comprise the "Hoval llawaiians," are said to be peerless as entertainers of the musically inclined, and their repertoire of instrumental and vocal music consists of nearly a thousand mimoers, containing not only the new but the very newest that has been written and sung, including many copyright selections belonging to individual members of the organisation. Not an item of the programme to be submitted .was chosen without the advantage of sincere selection. Nothing is included that has not something of a direct and personal appeal. Moreover, as in even,- selection made upon a true basis, the items react upon one another to produce a greater warmth of appreciation upon the audiences. Included amongst the "Royal llawaiians" are the "Hawaiian Glee Party," who are 6aid to be not only individual Ringers of great cnarm, but also the finest doublo quartette of male voices heard in the United States. In Australia the glee party created a sensation by the wonderful harmonising, nnd six recalls for their numbers were almost always insisted on. Their contributions to the programme are interspersed with instrumental solos and concerted items on native and European stringed instruments by the "Royal llawaiians," amongst whom are the Indy exponents of the "Hula Dance," who itre said to be of great beauty nnd physical attractions. It is confidently anticipated by the management that one of tho biggest audiences of the year will greet the "Royal llawaiians" on the occasion of their first appearance here on Wednesday night. ROYAL PICTURES.
Tho blending of cinematograph pictures and. good music should prove a happy venture as far as Messrs Crust and Gjedsted are concerned. The new firm,, who have taken a long lease of the Theatre Royal, New Plymouth, come into possession on July 1, and open on that date with a series of new pictures and a f'lll orchestra of competent musicians, i lie management arc 100 long aeeustomeo to cater for the public, taste to be ignorant of the value of a good orchestra, and this important, through frequently overlooked, component of an enjoyable evening will be worthily represented by an orchestra of six specially selected instrumentalists. The films' will be the very best procurable, and culled from all quarters of the universe. Indications of the management's intentions to make their entertainment thoroughly up-to-date is already visible, and tenders have neen accepted for the decorating of the entire auditorium of tho theatre. Ths management have also notmcd us that they will not spare expense in doing everything that will add to the comfort of their patrons. A special fire-proof machine-room is to be built at the back of the dress circle, thus cutting the audience oil from all danger in this respect. These are only a few of the improvements the new firm have promised us, and this paper feels confident that their efforts will be rewarded by generous public support.
