Mr. G. H. Dolby has been elected to' the New Plymouth Publio Library Committee.
The Rev. A. H. Colville, who has aocepted the charge of St. Mary's Pari»h> is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. Arthur Morton, of Egmont Village, has been unanimously elected chairman of directors of the National Dairy Association.
Dr. Miller, wlio recently came out from Home and was practising inr Waverley, died on Saturday morning. He was 58 years of age. Mr. Henry Hood, one of the Wanganui borough foremen, and an old Wan'ganui bandsman, died suddenly on Saturday morning, aged 44, from a paralytic stroke. lie was at work on Friday. Mr. Harold Beauehamp, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, left Wellington on Friday for Sydney by the Manuka, en route to the Old-' Country, »ia Vancouver. He will be absent .from the Dominion about nine months.
A Christclmrrh wire states that Ilia Acting-Premier continues on his southern tour on Tuesday, and it is understood that he will go as far south ns Riverton. His lirst address will probably bo given in rnvercargill, and hfr will speak at other places. On his return journey he will in all probability deliver a political address in Christchurch.
Joseph Mikulec, a Croatian (a naturalised subject of the .United States), has arrived in New Plymouth. He is engaged in walking round the world, and lias many medals and documents from various celebrities and bodies. He will finish his task in New York in 1914, -expecting to have covered by that time (50,000 miles. Mikulec says he will lift 25,000 dollars from a New York News agency and 50,000 crowns in Austria for his writings. Heplans to examine the Northern gumdiggers before he departs for other countries. Up to now he claims to have walked 47,000 miles. The funeral of the late Mr. James Way yesterday afternoon was a remarkable tribute to the popularity and appreciation of the- worth of an unobtrusive but sterling worker on many local athletic organisation'. The funeral cortege was headed by the Taranaki Garrison Band, playing the Dead March, and there was a very large numjrar of Oddfellows and members of the New Plymouth, Fitzroy, and other fire brigades to pay a last tribute to their brother and comrade. The coffin was drawn on a hose-reel by a party of firemen, and was covered with the Union Jack. After it came a large concourse of men—members of the Taranaki Rusfev Football Referees' Association (of which the deceased was a member), members of the local football club?, cards clubs, and the 'general public. The service at the graveside was very impressive. Colonel R. J. Collins, on whom the honor of Companion of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.), has been conferred by the King, will complete forty-six years' service on July 1 next. He was connected with the Treasury for thirtytwo years lis chief clerk ami accountant, and subsequently as secretary, payma-ster-general, and receiver-general. He was promoted to his present position of Controller and Auditor-General in February, 1910. lie has been actively associated with the volunteer movement for thirty-six years; he was captain of the Wellington City Rifles for ten years, in command of the Wellington Rifle Battalion for nine years, and Finance Member of the Council of Defence for three years. He was promoted full colonel in 1007. Colonel Collins lias also been prominently identified with ride shooting since 1800. Ho has been a member oi the Executive of the New Zealand Rillc Association since 1879, and Chief Executive Office of the Dominion Rifle Association since 1904, and outlined the scheme, now completed, for the completion of the Trentham rifle range. He received the Volunteer Decoration in 1901, was ap|M)inted Companion of the Imperial Service Order id 1909, and was appointed an honorary A.D.C. to His Excellency the Governor this year.
