DISTRICT NEWS.

WAREA (Fr«it Our Own Corrospendent.) A concert and dance was held on Friday night last in the schoolroom in aid of the school funds. The night was beautifully fine, although cold and frosty, and the building was crowded to the doors. The concert programme, which consisted chiefly of items by the children, mis very much appreciated by the audience. - Excellent music was supplied for the dance by the Ducker family. The programme was as follows: Selection, Ducker family; song, school children; recitation, C. Magon; song, S. Cassie; recitation, E. Smith and M. Jones; song, Mary Duggan and I. Cassie; reictation, F. Magon and C. Ducker; song, six school girls; song, Miss Cassie. The school prizes having been distributed, the floor was cleared for dancing. The new school being a fairly larga building, there is ample room for a good dance. At about midnight an excellent supper was handed round. Dancing was kept going till an early hour on Saturday morning. Mr. E. Julian acted as M.C.

Messrs Jones and Burgess, two new arrivals to the district, arrived last week to take possession of Mr. Limbriok's farm, at the top end of the road. Mr. IT. Okey, M.l'., visited this district last week and was shown over the country by Messrs Dueker and Classic. Mr. Okey was also taken over the Carrington road through the mud for some distance, to let him see the need there was for the metalling of this road from the New-all road across to the Puniho road, about a mile. The road is now in a very bad state, but probably it is nothing to what it will be in the spring. A farmer who lives on this road informed me that last spring, when the road got too bad for him to get his milk out with eight bullocks and a drav, he took to a sledge, and got it out that way, and he is looking forward to this glorious way of going to the factory this sprin". The metalling of this road will bring the settlers closer to the Okato township saleyards, etc., and is a, more level road to travel and more expeditious than the present route. The creamery closed down on Thursday for the winter months, and the fewsuppliers will have to journey to the main factory at Warea with their milk
