| MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Crown La nils Board was held at the Crown Lands Olliee, \ew Plymouth, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hayward, part section 2, block 12, Oluira—The Board has no power to sub-let part, but will approve of sub-lease of whole section. T. K. Skinner to E. J. Theobald, section 2, block 2, Omona.— Approved. C. M. Hawken to J. (!. Buchanan, sections 5 and 10, block 14, Waro. —Deferred for ranger's report. James Rooney to Wm. Phillips, section 25 and 20, block !), Ngatimaru.—Deferred for ranger's report. James Phillips to 11. and G. Blank, section 8, block 11, Aria.—Deferred for ranger's report. Ann Jones to J. E. Jones, section 7, block a, Upper Waitara.—Approved. P. (J. Weitzel to M. B. Wilson, section 90, block 4, Paritutu.—Approved. Extension of time in which to effect registration was granted as follows; Harvey and Norris to 11. R. E. Harvey, section 2, block 11, Ohura, two months' extension; M. Pittams to M. and W. Pittams, section 4, block 3, Rangi, one month; S. H. and K. A. Jenkins to H. Miskelly, section 35, block 15. Ngaere; APPLICATIONS FOR FREEHOLD, lhe following applications were granted for freehold:—W. A. Cleaver, -sections 1 ami 2, block 2, Pouatu; C. K. MeCotchan, section 12, block 0, Pouatu; 0. H. Rawlinson, section 3, block 3, Ngatimaru; D. Watkins, part sections 27 and 2:', block 9, Ngatimaru. Mr. H. T. Twiss was appointed appraiser for the purpose of valuation of part sections 27 and 28, block 0, Ngatimaru. A. J. Whittaker asked that forfeiture of section 1, block 2, I'iopiotea West, be r considered. The Under-Secretary of Lands also wrote and asked the Board to re-consider the matter.—Resolved that the Board saw no reason to alter its previous decision, and requested the UnderSecretary of Lands to gazette the forfeiture. , . THIRDS. The Motoroa Road Board submitted proposals for expenditure of £7 18s '8(1, accrued thirds. —Approved, subject to ranger's report. O. J. Sears consented to the thirds from sections 4 and 5, block 11, Cape, being spent on Dover road by Okato Road Board—Resolved that the money be paid to the Okato Road Board in terms of original proposals. RANGERS' REPORTS.' Mr. Tolme reported on the application of J. 11. Doar to take timber from the Whatitokarun block—Report adopted, subject to usual conditions as to payment of royalty and supervision. He also reported on section 0, block 11, Aria, originally set aside for timber.—Resolved to offer the land for selection under optional tenure. His report on the application of S. E. Meredith to take i timber from bush behind Mangaroa ! township was also adopted, and a license i was granted fpr twelve months under 1 same conditions as existing license over < other portions of township. Tn accord- > ance with his report it was resolved < that 4% acres of section 12, block 9, < Ohura, be offered by public auction at I valuation to be made by ranger as a site 1 for a sheep-dip and saleyards for Tatu £ settlers. He also reported on the ex- c penditure of the Mangare road loan by * the Whangamomona County Council.— t Resolved that a certificate lie issued ac- t cordingly. r
Mr. 11. S. Twiss reported on the inr spection of five holdings. Improvements required amounted to £2OBI and those effected £4302. One selector was in default for residence.
Mi*. E. Tolme reported on the inspection of two holdings, improvements required being £770, while those effected amounted to £332. Both were in default. The usual notices will be sent to tnose who have not complied with the requirements. IMPROVED FARM SETTLERS... The following settlers in the Tangitu improved farm settlement, appealed against forfeiture of their holdings:—R. H. lieautrais, section 3, block 12, Mapara; A. Henderson, section 14, block 11, Mapara; and A. W. King, section 5. block 12, Ma para. —Forfeitures were rescinded .subject to conditions. The following defaulters wfcre also dealt with:— R. X. Saunders, section 15, block 11.—• Deferred for one month. J. folding, section 20, block 1, Tangitu. —Reply satisfactory. .Tus. Miller,.section 7, block 2, Tangitu. —Forfeited. •J. IT. Brown, section !). block 1, Tangitu. —Deferred till next meeting. R. Cleaver, section 15, block 11, Mapara.—Granted till October 1 to build a house, and reside with his family. •I. Moloney, section 12, block 12, Mapara.—Previous resolution accepting surrender to stand. P. 0. D. A. Human, section 2.), block 11, Jiapara. —Resolved that, extension of time be granted till February 1 to get wife and family on the ground, erection of house and improvements to be diligently proceeded with meanwhile. The following improved farm settlers applied for and were granted their leases: —J. llanley, section S, block 2, Heao, and (I. Ingham, .section 11, block 14, Ohura. GENERAL. Mr. J. C. Loan, homo missionary for the Presbyterian Church, Normanby, applied for sections 105 and 132, Mokoia township for a church site. Messrs Caplen, Welsh and McCarthy, on bclialf of C. J. Hawken, applied for the same sections and section !• !.—lt was resolved that section 105 be oll'ered to Mr. Loan at a valuation to be jnade by the ranger, and that- sections 83, !)■! and 132' be valued at tlie same time. holding, and also for part 5, block 13, Waro.—Referred to the ranger. W. A. Harrison applied for a yearly
lease of 26 acres of section 110, block I'2, Cape, police reserve. —It was resolved that a yearly tenancy be granted at a rental of £2O per annum, and that a similar tenancy of half-an-acre be granted to M. J. Maclteynolds at a rental of £1 per annum, lessees' attention to be drawn to the necessity of keeping noxious weeds in check.
The Commissioner reported that W. B. Reid had deserted section 4, block 7, Mahoe. —Resolved that consideration be deferred till next meeting, and that the ranger's report be obtained. The Board approved of the Resident Road Engineer's proposal to deviate the Mangaoapa road oil section 41, block 0, Ngatimaru. It was also resolved that the Board dispose of part section 4, block 10, Ngatimaru to the lessee of section 43, block 0, Ngatimaru, for cash at the rate of £2 per acre (about 16y 2 acres), ii accordance with the agreement between the Resident Road Engineer and the settlers concerned.
James Martin was granted a. yearly tenancy of section 11, block 3, Aria, at a rental of £2 10s, terminable by three niontlis' notice on either side.
The Under-Secretary for Lands forwarded a copy of ,i letter from the Acting Minister of Lands with regard to payment of rent on Tangitu and Ma para improved farm settlements and issue of leases and licenses.
J. H. Brown applied for extension of time to reside on section 9, block 1, Tangitu.—Deferred till next meeting. Messrs Roy and Nicholson, on behalf of A. Hagenson, forwarded purchase money for freehold of part section 8, block 7, Waro. —Left in hands of Commissioner of Crown Lands to deal with.
IT. Jury forwarded application for part section 5, block 13, Waro (82 acres), at £ 1- per acre.—Land to be disposed of according to the Act, a valuation to be made bv the ranger.
The Clifton County Council applied to exchange portion of the Clifton road (closed) through sections 18 and 19, block 10, Miini, for the proposed new road through part section 14, block 10, Mimi.—Resolved that his Excellency the Governor be recommended to exchange tne land with Mr. W. J. Parsons ■unon'a plan being submitted. EDUCATION RESERVE LEASES.
The following transactions in education reserve leases were considered bv the Board:—
Transfers.—J. J. Walker to IT. Low, section 80. Mangamingi suburban; G. Jones to S. E. Kemp, part section 107, black 2, Ngaere; J, and E. Pierce to A. Lee, section 40, block 0, Ngaere; ,T. W. Paulger to J. R. Parkinson, section 110, block 2, Ngaere; P. G. Brooking to E. Leigh, part section 107, block 2, Ngaere; <>eo. Rae to W. F. McCallum, sections 517 to 519, New Plymouth; .T. Rootten to M. Meuli, section 7, block 12, Omona. —The, Board approved of these transfers, subject to all conditions being fulfilled. MeClregor and Ciochetto to J. J. Hills and J. J. Hills to R. A. McKenzie, part section 2. block 8, Opaku.-Deferred for ranger's report. Sub-lease.—(J. J. Hawken to J. G. Buchanan, section 3, block 14, .Waro Deferred for ranger's report. Mortgages.—The Board approved of several mortgages submitted. Messrs Malone, Anderson and Johnstone, solicitors, wrote applying for rectification of renewed lease of section 113, Manganui district (W. D. Colson).—Consideration deferred to next meeting, in the meantime the 'Commissioner to Investigate the matter,
J. T. Harrington and J. D. C'ostigan wrote declining renewal of lease of section 10, bl6ck 13, Hawera S.D.—Deferred for report of ranger. Tiie Board further considered the application of J. N. Gainlin for change ;)f tenure of sections 502, 503, etc., N'ew Plymouth.—Resolved to obtain legal opinion on the interpretation of .section 2 (3) 'Education Reserves Amendment Act, 1910.
W. Newell applied for lease of section 9, block 8, Opaku.—Resolved that the application be declined, and that all reserves unlet be withdrawn from lease for the present, with a view to adoption of a uniform system of lease.
A Nice I'riiit Gike.—Half a pound of Hour, five ounces of butter, a quarter of a pound of sugar, one ounce of citron peel, .two tables poonfuls of currants, two tablespoonfuls of currants, two tablespoonfuls of sultanas, one tablespoonful of stoned raisins, one level teaspoonful of baking-powder, two eggs, a quarter of a teaspoonful each of ground cinnamon and ginger, a quarter of a cupful of milk. Heat the butter and sugar to a cream, then add the yolks of the eggs well beaten, eift in the'flour and baking powder, add the fruit, shred the peel and add it, then add the milk, I and whites of eggs stiffly beaten, mix! gently, pour into a buttered and floured'] cake tin. Bake in a moderate oven for' two hours. This is an excellent cake I to serve with ''Dragon" brand tea. This I is one of the popular brands on tho I market, the others being "Elephant,",' "Crescent" and '"Mikado" blends, either of which will ploaso the palate. The Dragon blend is very rich and very economical in the teapot. It is very strong, and less of the tea must be used, as compared with other teas, to obtain a given amount of liquor. The "Dragon" blend is sold at -2s 3d per lb., and is obtainable from most grocers in your district.—Advt.
