CELEBRATIONS IN AUSTRALIA

LOYAL AND ENTHUSIASTIC. ' FINE WEATHER, BUT WINTRY. Received 22, 10.10 p.m. "Sydney, June 22. The Coronation festivities were favored with fine weather, though the wintry wind interfered somewhat with the enjoyment. The' city had a brilliant appearance. The streets and buildings everywhere were gay with bunting and decked with gTccnery. The harbor was a fine sight, and the shipping was lavishly dressed. All business was at a standstill, and loyalty was. universally in evidence.

In the morning there were Coronation services, at the churches, all denominations participating in the service at St. Andrew's Cathedral where the Lieuten-ant-Governor and naval and military representatives of the Government officially attended. It was a most impressive service, on the same lines as that held nt Westminster Abbey. At St. Mary's Cathedra] the service was of a military character. Cardinal Moran addressed a great gathering. During the day St. Mary's Church bellringers rang peals, each concluding with a Royal Calnte of twenty-one bells. At all the services the naval and military forces paraded strongly. In the parks and streets of the city, where stands were erected, great crowds listened to the bands playing patriotic music, joining with fervour in singing the National Anthem.

One of the great events of the day was the children's demonstration in the Agricultural Hall Ground. Over twenty thousand participated, and an effective programme, including tiie singing of appropriate songs, was given. The naval and military forces provided a sports display as an entertainment to the children and an immense crowd. Each child was presented with a Coronation medal.

At noon the Royal Salute wis fired by the warship Powerful. Country reports show that the day was everywhere loyally and enthusiasti-
