A London cable states that the Primce of Wales has been officially rated as a midshipman in the British Navy. Mr. Wishart Smith, manager of the Midland Railway, West Australia, has » been appointed Tasmanian Railway Commissioner—Press wire. On the motion of Mr. Quilliam in the Supreme Court, before His Honor Mr. Justice Edwards, Mr Truby King, L.L.8., was yesterday sworn in and admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court. Flags were flying at half-mast on the Central and East ward fire stations yesterday as a mark of respect to the late custodian of the Central station, Fireman James Way. A resident of New Plymouth all his life, a keen enthusiast and willing worker iu all matters pertaining to good sport, Mr. "Jim" Way was deservedly popular. He served his apprenticeship with Mr. J. Bellringer at the painting trade, and was employed ' by the firm wjthout a break until illness laid him low, having been with them for over 20 years.
