STAR (15) v. ROVERS (6). Star met Rovers on the Recreation Sports Ground on Saturday in splendid weather and on a dry ground. The game was not particularly interesting, and the play was mostly confined to the forwards. The backs on both sides started passing rushes, but with the exception of two or three times, the rushes gained little ground. The Star team had a day off, and their forwards and backs played with little or no combination. In the backs, Hill was easily the best, and his line-kicking was very effective. His potted goal was a beauty, and he had hard luck in not getting another. Mace, half-back, played very poorly, and did not get the ball away. He went too much on his own, and gave his backs very few chances. Dewttr, wing-forward, played a clever game, and of the rest Richards and Hawkins were most prominent. Rovers played a splendid uphill game, and in tile latter part of the second half had the best "of the play. Pott, full-back, played a great, game, and repeatedly saving his side. Alf. Grant was the best of the others, and he made pome fine openings. The forwards played well, and showed more coinbinaI tion than Star. Baker played a hard game, and was well supporte'd by Coker I and Ryder.

Star won the toss and played with the sua at their backs. Rovers pressed from the kick-off, and took play to Star's 25. C. Coker had two shots at goal in quick succession, hut both fell short. Star livened up and removed play to Rovers' 25. where Ryder was penalised for holding. Hawkins had a shot at goal, but failed. He had another shot a few minutes afterwards, which also failed. Rovers broke away nicely, but good kicking by Star sent the ball back again. Richards broke away from a line-out, Pott saving well. A passing rush started by A. Grant gave Rovers temporary relief. Star again attacked, and from a passing rush, Hill potted, the ball just going outside the posts. Richards got possession from a line-out, and sent the ball or! 'n Pfankuch, who passed to Hill, and tile latter scored. Hawkins failed to convert. From a high kick bv Hawkins Tapp got the ball and crossed the line, but lost the ball. The Blacks still pressed, and Woo ls spoiSfc a good scoring chance by off-side play. From a mark by McAlium, Hill had a shot at goal, but failed. Hill started a passing rush In Rovers' 25, and the ball went to Dewar, to Hawkins, to Pfankuch, to Bain, the latter scoring a good try. Hill converted with a good kick. Half-time was called shortly afterwni'ds with Rovers pressing. Star set up a strong attack on the resumption of play, and forced Rovers twice. The Blues then got going, and from a passing rush started by Reid, Thompson kicked to Pfankuch, who mulled. Webster followed up fast, and picking up the ball dashed over the line. Rvder made a poor attempt at goal. Star attacked from the kick-out, and Evans scored from a forward rush. The kick at goal failed. From a line-out Hawkins threw the ball out to Pfankuch, who sent it on to Hill, and lie latter potted a good goal. Rovers came away again, and had Star defending. From a scrum Ryder parsed the ball out to A. Grant, to Thompson, to Webster, who sent it back to Thompson, and the latter scored. Coker failed to convert. A good forward rush started by Dewar and Okey had Rovers in trouble, but Pott saved a certain score brilliantly. The Blacks tried hard to increase their score, but the defence was too solid. Time was called with the ball in neutral territory. Mr. A. Smart was referee.
