The death occurred in Wellisgton on Friday of Mr. John Hamflton, aged 88 years. Mr. G. Tiach, Mayor of New Plymouth, who has been seriously indisposed, is making a good recovery. Mr. T. Buxton has been elocted secro- > tary of the New Plymouth Fire Board, vice Mr. C. W. Howard, resigned. A London cablegram states that Sir Eldon Gorst suffered'a relapso after an operation and there is grave anxiety. 'Mr. Fred Fuller, solicitor, who died suddenly at Christchurch on Thursday of heart trouble, was very prominent in athletic circles some years ago. He was one of the founders of the Union Rowing Club, being for many years captain of the latter. He represented Canterbury on the football field, and was captain of the South Island team against Stoddart's English team. As an oarsman he was also very prominent, and represented his club at many regattas. He was also one of the founders of the New Zealand Bowling Association.
