The seismograph at the Observatory recorded n severe earthquake early this morning, the waves lasting from 12.27 to 1.53. It is considered that the earthquake was. n great distance from Australia. PACIFIQUE DOCKED. Received 17, 1.10 a.m. Sydney, June 10. The Paciflquc is docked. Her stern frame is frac-tnred and the rudder post bent. Nine plates will require removing. STATE AND COMMONWEALTH. Received 17, 1.10 a.m. Sydney, June 17. The State Treasurer estimates that New South Wales will lose £1,000,000 on account of the change to a per capita basis by the Commonwealth in payment of Customs revenue.
JEWELLERY STORE ON FIRE. Received 17, 1.10 a.m. Sydney, June 16. A fire occurred at Angus and Scootes' jewellery store in Kent street to-night. The building and goods on one flocr, valued at £20,(100, were badly -hmaged. ROUCiH ON SHIPPING. Received 17, 1.10 a.m . Sydney, June 10. The Bellambi has arrived from Hokinngsv. She encountered fierce southwesterly gales throughout, and was compelled to shelter a day under Lord Howe Island. The islanders reported the heaviest gales for years. Tarts of the foreshores are washed away, and a quantity of Oregon timber has drifted ashore on the island, THE WTMMERA FOOTBALLERS. Received 17. 1.10 a.m. Sydney, June 10. The [footballers remain aboard the Wimmera. as they arrived too late to land to-night. FATALLY CRUSHED. Received 17, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, June 10. Two men named Webber itnd McNichol were crushed to death by a fall of rock at Glenbrook railway deviation works.
