NEAR WANUANI'I. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui. Yesterday. The barquentine Pelotus. from Eden, New South Wales, which arrived off the bar last evening, was stranded on Castlecliff beach about a quarter of a mile from the north mole. There was a heavy fresh in the river, and the tug towing the barquentine failed to breast it. When both vessels had reached the pilot station they drifted out over the bar, where a heavy south-cast wind drove the Pelotus ashore. The crew are safe. The vessel is in a good position, and it is expected that she will be iloateu off without difficulty when the weather moderates. .*e Pelotus has a cargo of sleepers for the uonville Tramway Board. THE PELOTAS SAFE. Wanganui, Last Night. The barquentine Pelotas, which was swept out of the river mouth along with a tow-boat, owing to flood waters on Monday night, lies in a safe position, about a quarter of a mile from the north mole. She is on a sandy beach, but two anchors are holding her safe. The weather lias moderated and an effort is to be made to-morrow to get the vessel off.
