the new Mayor of Cliristelmrcb, Mr. T. £. Taylor, litis made a. new departure in civic matters. Hitherto the chief magistrate of the Cathedral City, when presiding at Council meetings, was accustomed to wear the robe and chain, the only visible insignia of his office. But Mr. Taylor apparently cares for none o! these vanities, which do not appeal to him, and, apparently for his personal comfort and convenience, he dispenses with them. The latest. A contemporary seriously states that a cow belonging to a Comity mortem was held to investigate the cause. When the body was opened there was found inside a leather purse containing four sovereigns, one half-sovereign, a 'half-crown, Ihrec ponce in coppers, and a railway ticket to Mullingar, where the Mullingar heifers are said to come from, those wonderful animals which are proverbial!* "beef to the heels." Rut besides this collection of coin there were also found a brass door knob, three breech-loading cartridges and a quantity of broken black-glass, presumably porter bottle*, which the omnivorous quadruped appears to have had recourse to assist in digestion.
