FIRES.
BOARDINGHOUSE DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Marton, Saturday. A fire at Marton this morning destroyed Mr. D. C. Bates' Sant'ort boardinghouse, a two-storeyed building containing 23 rooms, and Sid Amur's stables. Practically nothing was saved in the boardinghouse, as it was soon enveloped in Humes. Eleven boarders escaped with a few belongings. The plant at the stables was rescued. Lloyd and Co.'a building on the opposite side of the street was badly burned, and the stock damaged to the extent of £4OO. There was no watci m the reservoir, and the firemen worked' under great difficulties, and it was chemical engines that saved Lloyd's premises. The in•urances were:—On the boardinghouse £BOO and the contents £3OO, both in the Atlas office; on Amor's stables, £IOO in the Commercial Union; and the damage to Lloyd's stock is estimated at £SOO, which is covered in several offieet.
OUTBREAK IN NELSON. Nelson, Saturday. A five-roomed dwelling on the Waimea Toad, occupied by V. J. Lillcy, was destroyer by Are this morning. The insurance was £230. A DWELLING DESTROYED. Gisbome, Saturday. The eight-roomed residence of J. B. Poynter, of Tekaraka, was destroyed by fire this morning. It was insured for £4OO in the Imperial Office.
