LORD ISLINGTON.
VISITS WELLINGTON EXHIBITION. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. His Excellency the Governor arrived in Wellington from Auckland on Friday afternoon, and left again for the northern city by yesterday's Main Trunk train. > Lord Islington visited Wellington Exhibition yesterday, and was met by Messrs. T. Ballinger (chairman), Bull, Partridge, and H. F. Allen (secretary), and conducted through the buildings. He manifested keen interest and expressed himself as being greatly surprised at the extent and character of New Zealand's home manufactures, and also their variety and quality. He asked many questions as to prices in comparison with similar articles sold in England and also imported. He was pleasantly surprised at the art gallery, which contained some paintings of New Zealand scenery that appealed most strongly to him. Before he left, the Governor wrote in the visitors' book: "Have visited the exhibition and am much impressed with •quantity and quality of home manufactures that arc displayed."
