SHOOTING IN A THEATRE.
A BIT OF REAL DRAMA. St. Petersburg, June. 2. Patrons of one of the theatres in Vologda the other vening were unexpectedly treated to a little drama in real life. The curtain was just being lowered, when a girl in the front stalls rose suddenly from her seat, and, levelling a revolver at M. Elinoff, a prison inspector, tired live shots at him.
The girl then shouted that the theatre was on fire, and in the commotion that ensued she managed to escape by one of the exits. When' something like order had been secured it was found that the inspector had been severely wounded in the neck and in both arms, and that an officer and a lady .had been struck by' some of the bullets. As an official of a gaol that is notorious for the severity with which political prisoners are flogged by his orders, 51. Elinoff is anything but popular in Vologda, and there is little doubt that the girl's attempt to ■ assassinate him was an act of revenge for the brutal treatment of some relative or friend.
